What literature did you study when you were at school? (English literature..)?
I’m very curious as to know which texts (be them novels, plays, poetry etc.) you studied whilst you were at school?
Throughout my english schooling in Australia, the texts chosen by my faculty included…classics such as:
Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
Othello and Macbeth by Shakespeare
Oedipus Rex by Sophacles
The Great Gatsby and To Kill a Mockingbird, and a Streetcar named desire (my ONLY american texts!!)
Arcadia by Tom Stoppard
and a few Australian texts.
Did American schools tend to favour choosing those by American writers ? how about british schools? Just curious!
