english literature essay writing
how does a degree in english literature relate to the secondary national curriculum?

Obviously it is a core subject, and the writing skills you learn in English at school help you develop in ther subjects as well, especially for coursework essays. But is there any other ways it is relatable? this is for my pgce interview, and I want to say something that is different to what everyone else says!

Hi, I see you have connected to me! Good luck with your interview. I am an English teacher but am currently in bed with the flu so I apologise if my answer is somewhat rubbish…got a very high fever! I did my PGCE 3 years ago in English secondary teaching and my degree was in creative writing and philosophy so you don’t even have to have a degree in the subject you want to teach. I did also have experience in teaching EFL which meant I have relevant subject knowledge. A degree in English Literature relates to the rest of the curriculum as in many subjects students need to analyse information and be able to select relevant evidence and explain its significance. This is useful in Science, Geography, History…basically any empirical subject. Also students need to be able to develop their evaluative skills to do well in every subject. Good luck with your interview…and beware of the evil ‘week before the holidays flu’ that I get every year! The last week’s quite fun as well!
